It’s finally about that time when everybody asks, “What are you doing this summer?”. I used to(and still) ask that question to many of my classmates, but
I hate it when the conversation goes like this:
Me: So, what are you doing this summer?
Classmate: Oh, I’m going to Mexico and Brazil all in the same month! Thanks for asking by the way.
Classmate: So, what about you?
Me: (Muttering to myself why I asked that question)
Classmate: So what about you?
Me: Oh, I’m going to work on myself this summer(blocking my mind from the comparison between us)
There we go! That’s much better!
Here’s the takeaway of this blog post in a simple sentence:
Stop comparing yourself to others.
It’s something we all do. Social media sites like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter are increasing this nasty trend for us, and it’s decreasing our self worth. Like for example, sometimes I hear girls talk about how ugly they look compared to the girl next door on Instagram. Girl, you beautiful. Don’t let anybody or anything else tell you otherwise.
Here is a quote about comparing yourself to others from Jennie Finch:
“Try not to get lost in comparing yourself to others. Discover your gifts and let them shine!”
Today’s assignment is to catch yourself when you make a comparing statement about you and someone else.
It is due when you submit it in the comments below. . .
For example, if someone goes to China to see the Great Wall this summer, be fascinated, but don’t end up feeling all sad just because you’re not like them. We’re all unique, and that’s what makes us great!
Anyways, enjoy your summer!
